Anthony M. Pilla Student Learning Center

Infinity served as the General Contractor on this 27,350-sf two-story structural steel and load bearing masonry building. Phase I of this project was a new structural steel and load bearing masonry building.  The poor soils at the project required an augur pile foundation.  The building exterior includes many design accents complimented by a colonnade walkway and 62-foot tall lighted masonry tower. The facility includes 14-new classrooms two designed for distance learning and videoconferencing, breakout rooms, small seminar rooms, a new nursing technology laboratory, state of the art video learning center and a dramatic 2 story student gathering areas. The gathering area is accented by an exposed wood truss roof system and an ornate 10-foot diameter stained glass window feature.

Phase II had three sub-phases including:

  1. Renovation to the north side of the first floor creating a new bookstore and office.
  2. A new 2-story addition of 1,984 square feet added a dining room on the first floor and a faculty lounge, office, seminar room, reception area and conference room on the second floor.
  3. A new 2,202-sf single story addition to create a new kitchen/servery area.

Project was originally secured as a lump sum bid which was over the school’s budget. With difficult schedule constraints the contract was negotiated as a “modified” Construction Management At-Risk  engagement where Infinity assisted with cost savings alternative and constructability reviews.  Through difficult 100 year winter conditions Phase I finished the project on time and on budget for a grand opening and dedication ceremony date.  In Phase II, Infinity self-performed drywall and carpentry.
