Adaptive Reuse to New Police Station headquarters

Project details

Infinity is serving as General Contractor this adaptive re-use of an existing 31,632-f office building (Meister Media) for use as a police facility. Work includes an +/- 4,000 square foot addition for a 5-bed, 12 day jail compliant with Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections (ODRC) criteria. A separate building, approximately 4,000 square feet will be constructed for a firing range. A portion of the firing range facility will function as the facility storm shelter.

Turning this existing building into a police headquarters took careful coordination with manufacturers, because the new jail cells had to be built to exact specifications. Each new window opening needed custom supports, both up-and-down and side-to-side, so the building could withstand high winds. We put temporary supports in place while we enlarged the existing openings. Unsuitable soil had to be mitigated before we could build the new firing range and storm shelter. Manufacturers of the backup generator and the switches that transfer power to it failed to meet their contracted delivery dates which extended the schedule. It reinforces the necessity to save time when work can be accelerated safely and efficiently, to build extra time into the schedule so unexpected delays do not threaten the agreed completion date.
